The Ever Tenous Unveiling Date

A long road is being travelled to reach the final unveiling of the "Reaching Out" Monument. There have been many false starts for a hopeful Unveiling date. A project of this size often has many obstacles to work through before completion.

The sculpting of the quilt squares and figures was completed in June of 2000. One figure of the "Reaching Out" Monument has been cast in bronze. When the site is confirmed fundraising will proceed for the second figure.

When we begin the final bronze foundry process on the second Monument figure an announcement will be made about an unveiling date.

The purposes of the Unveiling will be to:
  • Give acknowledgment and thanks to participants who have contributed to all aspects of the “Reaching Out” Monument project
  • Create awareness of “Reaching Out” and provide means for the community responding to child abuse concerns to benefit from the unveiling activities.
  • Promote and further position the Monument as an agent and tool of healing for survivors and understanding for the community.

Acknowledge Participants, Sponsors, Patrons And Supporters

The Unveiling will be a gathering of the hundreds of people who have been part of creating and supporting “Reaching Out.” We will extend a broad invitation to survivors, the community, survivor support and child welfare professions and the media.
